ProfootballTalk Should Stay in its Lane
Former lawyer and now sports commentator advocates for power of judiciary
I started listening to and reading commentary and analysis by Mike Florio early on when he first established his site in 2001 while he was still practicing law. ProFootballTalk | PFT: News, Rumors, Videos, Highlights, Results & More - NBC Sports became an affiliate of NBC Sports in 2009, and he no longer practices law. As time went on and his influence grew larger, he became less descriptive and more prescriptive as if he knew what is best. For instance, Florio: The Steelers should ‘run’ from Rodgers April 18, 2025 08:23 AM.
Now I have given up on him as he crossed the line from sports to politics with the following alarmism:
Unless and until the executive branch commits to respecting all decisions of the judicial branch, our system will begin to disintegrate. And the executive branch will become a monarchy, an authoritarian regime, a dictatorship.

Has it ever occurred to Florio that POLL: Trust in Nation's Court System Hits Record Low after Years of Leftist Lawfare | Headline USA when he demands respect for decisions of the judicial branch? Where was Florio’s conscience pang when POTUS 46 and his party made a mockery of the immigration system as Democrats Import Foreign Nationals for Blue Votes and Cheap Labor without proper vetting? In addition, No Fair Day: Damning New Report Reveals the Biden Administration’s Unlawful Treatment of Children in Immigration Courts | UCLA Law. Now, Florio and other alarmists are crying crisis in demanding due process for gang members being deported. The real crisis is that cherry-picked rogue activist judges put in place by Democrats are usurping power to legislate from the bench. Border czar Tom Homan points out the irony:
Florio writes that followers of his site have responded positively:
The feedback has been overwhelmingly (and surprisingly) positive. For those who primarily consume our content on this platform, here’s the situation.
Our country currently is in a crisis. It’s blossoming in multiple ways, through multiple pieces of litigation. The main issue that has been weighing me down mentally and emotionally in recent days is the case of Kilmar Abrego Garcia.

I would not be surprised if more of these opinion pieces to be forthcoming.
Florio has now lost credibility with me in both sports and politics because of his inflated sense of his own importance as he expects respect for his advice. There are plenty other commentators on both sports and politics who exhibit sufficient restraint to stay in their lane so that I will move on from his site.
