Residents of Springfield, Ohio Deserve Humane Treatment
ELCA Presiding Bishop earlier urged humane treatment of Haitian migrants
I recall when the ELCA presiding bishop led a protest march to the ICE building in Milwaukee during the 2019 churchwide assembly. ELCA declares itself a ‘sanctuary church body,’ marches to ICE building in Milwaukee
Also, I recall when the presiding bishop took up the cause of Haitian migrants. Presiding Bishop Eaton urges humane treatment of Haitian and other migrants - ELCA
Recently, I read how Springfield, Ohio Residents Air Grievances About Wave Of Haitian Migrants: "Who is Getting Paid To Bring Them Over Here?
This is a case of be careful what you ask for. I suggest that the presiding bishop meet with members of ELCA congregations in this city in her home state and defend her actions. Perhaps, when she completes her term of office, she can retire to Springfield to hear first-hand the grievances of the residents and urge humane treatment for them.
This church in it’s official stance is becoming little more than another woke mainline Protestant denomination uttering the same bullet points as the political party, which also held its convention in the same city as the 2019 churchwide assembly. The president of this political party, in my opinion, cynically issued executive orders on immigration for two reasons: blue votes and cheap labor.
The leaders of this church advocating these positions buttressing the blue party have relinquished the creative tension to speak to both sides of the spectrum. The new accompanying religion is nothing more than a works righteousness new theory of the atonement in which woke adherents virtue signal to somehow assuage their guilt over white privilege. The problem with this theory as with every theory of works righteousness is that an adherent can never do enough and so ever more is required.
I do not think history will look kindly on this church leader presiding over this lurch to the left and the resultant polarizing downward spiral. At this rate, the end of the life cycle for this denomination cannot be too far off, and pronouncements of its presiding bishop will dissipate into irrelevancy.
PS: I sent an email to bishop@elca.org but unsurprisingly did not receive a reply.
